Julia C. Guymont passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the age of 98.   A long-time resident of Brockton and Easton, she was the widow of Kenneth W. Guymont and  the daughter of Sylvester and Constance (Urbanovicz) Sviokla.

A graduate of Brockton High School, she also graduated from Boston University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts.  She also attended Bridgewater State College.

Julia Guymont taught in the Frank E. Holt School and the Middle School in Whitman for 26 years.  During this time she was the Director of the summer school for 7 years.  Upon retirement she was granted the Plymouth County Education Association Award for outstanding service to children, the community, and the teaching profession.

Mrs. Guymont was the President of the College Club of Brockton and Secretary and President of the League of Women Voters of Brockton.  

She resided in Easton from 1964 through 2000, and has lived in Wellesley, MA since then at the Elizabeth Seton Residence.  She was a member of the Fuller Art Museum where she served as docent, and was also a member of the Easton Garden Club.  She was also a communicant of Holy Cross Church where she taught Christian Doctrine for three years.

Julia Guymont is survived by her two sons, Frederick J. of Bethesda, MD and Philip J. of South Dartmouth, MA and their wives.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Holy Cross Church, 225 Purchase St., South Easton, MA. There will be a short visitation from 10:30 to 11:00 am in the church prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Easton.
