POWERS, Susan V., 84, of Stoughton, MA passed away peacefully on November 15 from complications of Parkinson’s Disease, with her sister, Martha, by her side. She was predeceased by her parents Edwin Powers of Yarmouth, MA and Carol Powers of Berkeley, CA and her longtime partner, Stanley Geschwind. She is also predeceased by her good friend Michael Hersch. Susan also leaves behind her beloved cousins, the Johnsons of Racine, Wisconsin, where she traveled every Christmastime for over 50 years for those special family gatherings.
Susan was born in 1935 in Hanover, NH. She was raised in Lexington, MA graduating from Lexington High School with the class of 1953 and then attended Middlebury College. She was a scientist and school teacher before earning her Psy.D. in Psychology from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. For many years she ran a private counseling practice ins Sharon, MA.
She leaves her sister, Martha Powers of Cape Cod, MA, her brother Steven Powers of Topanga, CA, her beloved cat, Lior, as well as Stanley’s sons, Daniel, Michael, Ben, their children and extended family.
Susan was an accomplished watercolorist, avid birder, Tai Chi enthusiast and nature lover. In 1983 Susan began visiting Appalachian Mountain Club’s Three Mile Island on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH where she met her longtime love Stanley, and many other friends over the years.
