Benjamin Pugatch Obituary

It is with great sadness the family of Naval Chief Petty Officer Benjamin Emmanuel Pugatch, retired announces his passing on Tuesday March 30, 2021 at the age of 73. 

Benjamin grew up in Dorchester, MA and went to the Boston Latin School before enlisting in the Navy in 1965 and served 8 tours of Vietnam. Benjamin married Carol Couch of Avon, MA in May of 1972 and later graduated from Stonehill College in 1977 and the New England School of Law in 1983.  After setting roots in North Easton, MA he was blessed with both a daughter Laura (Pugatch) Forth in 1978 and a son Daniel Pugatch in 1981. Benjamin served the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Health in the 1980s focusing on TB and cancer registry. Benjamin later operated Benji’s Easton Hobbies which had three locations between 1986-1991 sharing his passion for baseball cards, remote control cars, and model trains with the area youth.  During all this time in civilian life Benjamin continued to serve his country in the US Naval Reserves before returning to full time Navy service in 1995.

Benjamin retired from the Navy as YNC in 2007. Benjamin leaves behind a legacy of hard work and service with his Sea Bees “Can Do” attitude. He will be greatly missed by his surviving family:  wife Carol (Couch) Pugatch,  daughter Laura (Pugatch) Forth, son Daniel Pugatch and wife Heather and his six grandsons Trenton Forth, John Pugatch, Connor Forth, Nathan Forth, Wyatt Pugatch and Levi Pugatch, his brother Eugene Pugatch, MD, sister Thelma (Pugatch) Malafey and husband Karl and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Burial will be on Monday, April 19 at 11:15 am at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.

In lieu of flowers it has been requested to send donations to Old Colony Hospice of West Bridgewater or Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) Region 3, Chapter 2-2.
