Clark E Goebel Sr., lovingly known as “The Fudd” passed away with his wife & children by his side after battling cancer for many years.

He was born in Melrose MA, the only child of Thomas & Violet Goebel. His family moved to the Philadelphia area where he attended Episcopal Academy and graduated high school in 1956. He was awarded best player awards in 1955 & 1956 for baseball and was invited to try out for the Phillies. He declined due to his father’s wishes and enlisted in the Navy. He attended Brown University on a Navy scholarship where he met his future wife, Gail. They met on a double date they had with other dates at Brown but decided they were better together and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage June 10.

Clark graduated Brown in 1960 and after graduation served as an officer during the Bay of Pigs. He was later was promoted to Lieutenant and served in Vietnam until he was honorably discharged in 1978.

Clark & Gail began their married life in Providence RI, Little Creek VA, & San Diego CA while in the Navy. After serving in the Navy, they settled in Ossining NY where he worked as a programmer for Reader’s Digest. The family later moved to Wilbraham, MA where Clark worked for Mass Mutual and eventually went to work for Monarch Life Insurance where he built the company’s real estate portfolio from a negative net worth of ($675K) to over $174M during his 13 years there. Some of the developments in which he was involved include Monarch Place of Springfield, World Trade Center in Boston and Marina Bay in Quincy.

Clark enjoyed tennis, golf, and was a big fan of all sports but especially the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics & Bruins and the Kentucky Derby. He loved his family and friends, the “Duke of Earl” song by Gene Chandler, the latest gadget and making sure everyone had fun. He will be remembered always with much love and affection.

He is survived by his wife, Gail, daughter Marjorie Ann Thorpe of Boxford, son Clark Goebel Jr. of Dennis, daughter & husband Wendy & Tom Whitty of Easton, and son & wife Chris & Cathy Goebel of Southwick, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Clark will be cremated, family and friends will be invited to a celebration of his life at a future date.
