John Alden Carlson, age 81, from North Easton, MA passed on October sixth from a life well-lived serving God whom He loved on earth to serving Him in heaven.

Preceded in death by his parents, Alden & Shirley Carlson of Brockton MA, and brother Steven Carlson of Lakeville MA. Survived by sister Susan & her husband Glen Larson of Rockford IL, brother Paul & his wife Deborah Carlson of Ladson SC, sister-in-law Gail Carlson of Mattapoisett MA, sister-in-law Joy Marshall of Woburn MA, and brother-in-law Timothy Marshall of Middleboro MA.

Beloved Husband of Madeline Elaine (Marshall) Carlson. Married through 58 years of fun, adventure, & hard work.

Loving Father to: Kevin & Cheryl Carlson of Bridgewater MA and Rachel Phelan of North Easton MA. He loved his grandchildren: Benjamin & Shaylin Hogan of Wrentham MA, Andrew & Gloria Phelan of Bend Oregon, Shamus & Lauren Hogan of Cranston RI, Robin Phelan of Supply NC, Nikolaos & Kathryn Kalemkerides of Boston MA, Deacon Clark of North Easton MA, and his great grandchildren: Nathaniel Hogan, Nora Andrews, Charlotte Hogan, and Georgia Andrews.

John’s two great passions in life were his family and his faith, and he was dedicated to both. Known by all to be a warm-hearted and generous man; he nurtured and supported his children and grandchildren with devotion. He greeted the births of his great grandchildren with joy.

John and Madeline were instrumental in planting four churches, and they served as founders and pastors of the Attleboro Foursquare Church. He served as faculty member of Hatzor Bible Institute, teaching Hebrew. He loved to travel and especially enjoyed leading groups to Israel where he and Madeline lived and served for a time as volunteers with Bridges for Peace.

He was proud of his military service with the Army Security Agency and was a decorated veteran of the Cold War.

The Boston Carpenter’s Union Local 33 honored his years of talented craftsmanship by making him a lifetime member. Known for his cabinet-maker’s talent with fine woods, he was in demand for exquisite casework in numerous Boston buildings.

His penchant for driving rusty, old pickup trucks was legendary.

Friends and family are invited to a service of thanksgiving to remember his life at Lifehouse Church, 17 Jericho Road, Middleboro MA on Saturday October 15 at eleven o’clock. A light lunch will be served after the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to a Veterans assistance group such as Wounded Warriors or Disabled American Veterans would honor John.
