John Habelt, Jr. Obituary

John W. Habelt, Jr. of Easton, MA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 26, 2022, while recuperating at Life Care Center of West Bridgewater.  He was 96.

John was born in Milton, MA on June 24, 1926 to the late John W. Habelt, Sr. and Ella (Geode) Habelt.  He was the proud and loving father of Stephen Habelt and his wife Susan, Scott Habelt and his wife, Linda; son-in-law Michael Berry; George Allen and his wife, Carol, Thomas Allen and his wife, Judy, Teresa Richard and her husband Bob, Maria Allen and her partner Cindy Cleveland, Kristina Allen, Lisa Allen and her partner Kris Rottinghaus; his adored grandchildren Lira, Michaela and Julia Berry; his sister-in-law Carol Habelt and many step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

John was predeceased by his wife, Greta (Rydholm); his daughter, Susan Berry, and his brothers Herbert Ruhr, Richard Habelt and Robert Habelt.

He found happiness late in life with his wife of nearly 20 years, Genevieve (Sacco), who passed away in 2019.

John was a proud WWII Veteran, completing his service as a Seaman 1st Class in the Navy aboard the USS Crockett APA-148 in the South Pacific. For many years he participated in Veterans activities with both the Easton VFW and the American Legion.   He was thrilled to attend the New England Honor Flight with George Allen at the age of 90 and visit the WWII Memorial in Washington DC.

John provided for his family as a machinist and lived in Easton nearly all his life.

John was a man of deep faith and active with the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Easton.  He loved nothing greater than sharing a meal and spending time with family and friends and with his beloved cat Leonardo.  John kept active and independent until his recent illness.  Over his long life he touched a great many lives with his unique charm and loving personality and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 143 Lincoln Street, North Easton, MA on Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 10:00 –12:00 immediately followed by a Funeral Service at the Church at 12:00.  A Navy honor guard committal will take place on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 10:00AM at the South Easton Cemetery, 473 Washington St., Easton, MA.  Friends and family are invited to attend.
